Diplomas in Professional French (DFP) test
the candidate’s aptitude and competence to use written and oral French in various areas of professional
life and
on different levels. They are issued by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Paris (CCIP).
Each examination is divided into two parts: understanding and processing information (written
information, oral information & written communication), and oral interaction.
There are three types of DFP diplomas, each focusing on a different sector: Affaires, Relations
Internationales & Tourisme-Hôtellerie-Restauration. The material covered in each exam is specific to that industry.
Affaires (Business)
The
Diploma in French for Business is for professionals or government personnel working in any position requiring them
to communicate with French-speaking contacts orally or in writing, and it demonstrates that you are fully prepared to
handle the interpersonal, administrative and commercial aspects of company business.
The exam may include the following activities: completing a form, commenting on a graph, writing a note, writing a report, meeting
with client, presenting your professional background, and negotiating with a business partner.
Relations Internationales
(International Relations)
The Diploma in French for International Relations was created at the request of the Ministry
of Foreign Affairs and International Development and
the International Organisation of la Francophonie. It is designed for diplomats,
international officials, journalists, and others likely to play a role in the work of international or European institutions and
organisations.
The exam may include the following activities: writing a summary note, commenting on country data, summarising news items, organising a
formal event, writing an official statement, presenting a mission or a project, presenting a country situation, requesting support in
the field, presenting a position during a negotiation
Tourisme-Hôtellerie-Restauration
(Tourism, Hospitality, and Catering)
The Diploma in French for Tourism, Hospitality, and Catering is intended for professionals in the hotel, tourism and food service sectors in customer-facing roles, such as receptionists, concierges, travel agents, tour operators, tour guides, servers, and restaurant managers.
The exam may include the following activities: taking an order, greeting a customer, responding to guest comments, presenting a plan for a guided tour, writing promotional copy for a tourist excursion, explaining a map, and providing advice to a client.
Please note that it will not always be possible to run each session as per the CCIP’s timetable.
