4 days & 4 nights

Fees: £540/person

Deadline to register: Thursday 30th April

PROGRAMME

Visit Marseille’s most famous sights with a French guide & teacher from the
Alliance Française Marseille, and stay with a host family for 4 nights!

Monday 15th June:

Arrival and transport to your host family.

Tuesday 16th June:

  • Le Vieux Port (Old Harbor) is probably the most important area of Marseille. It is part of the city’s old town and a great location, so it’s definitely worth a visit.

  • Le Musée des Civilisations de l’Europe et de la Méditerranée (MUCEM). Open in 2013, this beautiful museum explores Mediterranean civilisations and history, and provides an insightful look into the way they developed until they became what they are today. Apart from exhibitions there are also mini films or lectures to help visitors better comprehend Mediterranean culture, and the museum spans three entire buildings.

  • Atelier cuisine / Cooking class at the Alliance Française Marseille
Marseille is particularly known for its Pastis – an anise-flavored aperitif – and its abundance of fresh seafood. Don’t miss the opportunity to learn more about the delicious Provence recipes during this trip!

Wednesday 17th June:

  • Le Quartier du Panier is one of the most picturesque neighbourhoods visitors will find anywhere in France. It is easily accessible from the Vieux Port, as it is situated on a nearby hillside. It was first inhabited in 600BC, when the Greeks settled here, so it truly is the oldest part of the city.

  • Le Château d’If Those who have read Alexandre Dumas’ iconic  adventure novel The Count of Monte Cristo will undoubtedly find the name of this island familiar. Although some guides suggest the events actually happened, the fictional count was never actually imprisoned here, although this makes Château d’If no less fascinating: visitors will learn all about the 16th Century castle’s history as a prison for political enemies of the state.

Thursday 18th June:

  • Les Goudes: This district of the 8th arrondissement of Marseille offers a spectacular and authentic setting close to the Calanques. In addition to the picturesque setting and breathtaking panorama, many bars and restaurants welcome visitors to this unique place

  • Visiting the beautiful Calanques – a stretch of coast between Marseille and Cassis – is a must, especially in the summer. Stunning views, beautiful beaches, and a refreshing sea breeze are some of the highlights that travellers will be able to enjoy.

Friday 19th June:

Departure for the airport in the morning.
