Online Panel Discussion + Film Screening: ‘After COP26 – The Future of Food’

 

On the occasion of the International Night of Ideas, the Alliance Française Glasgow is delighted to invite you to a special online discussion about the way we produce and consume food and the challenges posed by climate change.

The discussion will be followed by the screening of a short film: 'La Parcelle' (The Cornfield) dir. Michael Guerraz.

Join our panel of experts:

Rebecca Ricketts is a Senior Project Advisor and founding member of Circular Glasgow, a Glasgow Chamber of Commerce initiative. Rebecca champions and facilitates a movement for change around circular economy principles in the urban economy; by connecting businesses, public sector and local government with one another.  During Cop26, she initiated 'Plate up for Glasgow' a hospitality-led campaign highlighting the issue of food waste and its impact on our environment and the local economy. 

Wendy is a Chef and food writer, who has always been fascinated by local food culture. Growing up with catering and farming connections, what began as a hobby soon became her career. Inspired to collaborate more with artisan producers and like-minded chefs, Wendy founded her own food guide, www.scottishfoodguide.scot. Dedicated to biodiversity and food heritage, Wendy supports and collaborates with various organisations and charities and is Leader of Slow Food Scotland’s Ark of Taste.

  • Abi Mordin

Abi is an experienced grower, facilitator, and researcher, who has been working across community and local food projects for over 20 years. Passionate about food sustainability, resilience, and sovereignty, she is the Chair of Glasgow Community Food Network and co-author of the Glasgow City Food Plan. Abi also runs a small market garden and is on the Scotland policy committee for the Landworker's Alliance. 

Hélène is specialised in urban food policies, economic, social and environmental issues related to food. Before being Food Policy Officer for the South Lanarkshire Council, where she developed the first-ever food policy developed by a local authority in Scotland. Hélène worked as policy analyst at the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. In this position, she supported central African governments in the analysis and development of food and agriculture policy.

Yves has accepted to plant an experimental cornfield on his farm. This decision allows the couple to be more financially stable. As they have a baby on the way, everything seems to be on the up. That is, until one day, when Yves discovers some strange sap flowing down an ear of corn.

Duration: 20 min, French with English subtitles.
