The Alliance Française de Glasgow is pleased to announce its participation in La Nuit des idées by hosting a debate between two teams of students from the University of Glasgow and the University of Strathclyde.



The debate will be followed by a screening of the documentary “Nous, Princesses de Clèves”.
At the end of the screening, a jury will select the winning team on the basis of language level, arguments and public speaking skills.



About “Nous, Princesses de Clèves” by Régis Sauder (69 minutes) :
The story unfolds in 1558 at the court of King Henry II. Mademoiselle de Chartres, now the Princess of Clèves after her marriage, encounters the Duke of Nemours. An instant and overwhelming love blossoms between them, but her mother implores her to resist it. In present-day Marseille, students from Lycée Diderot take on The Princess of Clèves to reflect on their own lives. At 17, one loves intensely, hides feelings, makes confessions. It’s the age of first choices and early sacrifices.
