Join our teacher Caroline for a Café Cinéma to discuss French cinéma in a relaxed and francophone environment.

Our Café Cinéma will take place on-site at our premises on Friday afternoon.

The film selected in March is Incendies de Denis Villeneuve. 

Le film est inspiré de la pièce de théâtre Incendies de Wajdi Mouawad, elle-même inspirée de la vie de Souha Bechara.

"Le film évoque les jumeaux Jeanne et Simon qui, à la suite du décès de leur mère Nawal Marwan, se voient remettre deux lettres par le notaire Jean Lebel. L'une qu'ils doivent donner à leur père qu'ils n'ont jamais connu et qu'ils croyaient mort, et l'autre à leur frère dont ils ignoraient l'existence. Commence alors pour les jumeaux une longue quête vers leurs origines, et le dévoilement de la vie secrète de leur mère.''

'The film tells the story of twins Jeanne and Simon who, following the death of their mother Nawal Marwan, are given two letters by the notary Jean Lebel. One is to be given to their father, whom they have never known and believed to be dead, and the other to their brother, whose existence they were unaware of. This marks the beginning of a long journey for the twins to discover their origins and unravel the secret life of their mother.'

Le film remporte neuf prix à la 13^e cérémonie des Jutra le 13 mars 2011, dont celui du meilleur film et du meilleur scénario. Incendies est considéré comme l'un des 10 meilleurs films de 2011 par The New York Time.
