French Exams


As the official French examination centre for Glasgow and the West of Scotland, we administer a number of exams for our students and external candidates. 


IMPORTANT
France Education international (FEi), the French Ministry of Education’s agency and examination board for DELF-DALF qualifications, have informed us that between 9 January and 12 January their administrative examination management platform, GAEL, was the target of a cyberattack. FEi operated an emergency shutdown of the platform as soon as the breach was discovered as a safety measure. An investigation into this incident has been launched, together with a reinforcement of security measures on the platform. Since the platform contains limited personal candidate data such as names, citizenship, and dates of birth, we invite candidates to remain aware of potential attempts of identity fraud following this incident. Please note that no passport numbers, medical data, or bank data are logged on the platform. FEi have published an official communication on their website. Candidates wishing to have further information on the incident and FEi’s safety policy may contact FEi’s data protection officer.

French Exams

DELF (Diplôme d'Études en Langue Française) & DALF (Diplôme Approfondi de Langue Française)

For students, professionals, and language learners.

  • Recognised worldwide and awarded by the French Ministry of Education.
  • Suitable for all levels, from beginners (A1) to advanced learners (C2).
  • No expiry date – valid for life.

Who is it for?

  • Students applying for French universities.

Exam Levels:

  • DELF A1 & A2 – Basic level, ideal for beginners.
  • DELF B1 & B2 – Intermediate level, often required for jobs and studies.
  • DALF C1 & C2 – Advanced level, suitable for academic and professional fluency.

TCF (Test de Connaissance du Français)

Note: The TCF is valid for 2 years from the date of results.

 The TCF is an official French language proficiency test administered by France Éducation international on behalf of the French Ministry of Education.
  • Officially recognised by the French government and academic institutions.
  • Required for certain visa and residency applications.
  • Accepted by French universities and schools as proof of language ability.
  • Evaluates comprehension and expression in listening, reading, speaking, and writing.

Who is it for?

  • Individuals applying for long-term residency or a Titre de séjour in France.
  • Applicants for French citizenship (via TCF IRN).
  • International students applying to French universities.
  • Anyone needing an official certification of their French language level (A1–C2).

Test Types:

  • TCF IRN – For applications for French nationality and long-term residency (Integration, Residence, Nationality).
  • TCF Canada – Required by the Canadian government as part of the immigration process (alternative to TEFAQ).
  • TCF for the general public – For academic, professional, or personal use (university entry, career development, etc.).
