DELF & DALF

What are the DELF and DALF?

The DELF (Diplôme d’Études en Langue Française) and the DALF (Diplôme Approfondi de Langue Française) are official diplomas awarded by the French Ministry for Education certifying competency in French for foreign candidates.

The DELF and the DALF have been organized since the early 90s. It is a widely recognized diploma based on the levels of the Common European Framework for Languages (CEFR).

Since 2005, the DELF and the DALF certificates are harmonized with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages from the Council of Europe.

• Why take the DELF and DALF?
  If not simply for your own benefit, these French diplomas can be an asset to your CV as they are internationally recognized for both professional applications and university studies.
  
  More than 500,000 people pass the DELF exam every year, and your results are valid for life. 
  
  For instance, holders of the DALF C1 diploma and sometimes the DELF B2 can be exempted from taking an entrance test before enrolling in a French University. For foreign students, the DALF C1 is usually the required gateway to the most prestigious schools or universities.

• Who can take these tests?
  Anyone who wishes to validate their French language skills may sit the examination.
  
  Young people under the age of 18 may choose to sit for the DELF Junior, and children younger than 12 can take the DELF Prim.

We run four exam sessions per year: March, June, October & December

Exam Levels 

DELF A1 – Discovery.

DELF A2 – Basic user.

DELF B1 – Independent.

DELF B2 – Independent and spontaneity in regular interactions.

DALF C1 – Clear, well-structured discourse without hesitation.

DALF C2 – Precision, appropriateness and fluency of expression.

Please note that until further notice, you may find two examination formats of DELF Listening Comprehension and Reading Comprehension in exam papers. The number of exercises, the length of the source documents, and the type of questions may differ from one format to another.
